Rodeo is a unique sport that offers competitors and spectators a window into the past.
The roots of rodeo can be traced back as early as the 1700s to Spanish Vaqueros on working ranches. Rodeo wasn’t originally a sporting event, but an integral part of the everyday working ranch.
Rodeo was nearly destroyed by World War I, but thanks to three men and two organizations it was brought back, and was better than ever!
In 1922 Tex Austin created the Madison Square Garden Rodeo, which quickly became a must-see event.
William T. Johnson took over the Garden’s rodeos and began putting on rodeos in other eastern indoor arenas. This forever changed the nature of the sport.
